Children & Youth in the Community

Groups for Children & Youth

Groups provide children and youth with the opportunity to process and understand the violence and abuse that they have been exposed to. Group guidelines help to create a safe and predictable environment. Participants are never obligated to share their stories in a group unless they choose to do so.

Groups are for boys and girls 4-18 years of age who have been exposed to or witnessed violence or abuse. Groups are offered in the City of Kingston and communities in Frontenac County. The children participating in groups need to be living in a safe situation, away from the abuser. Our counsellors also provide individual counselling for children and youth.

Groups help children and youth:

  • Identify and express their feelings about violence, separation, shame, guilt and/or loss
  • Develop new ways of solving problems
  • Make safe choices for personal safety
  • Learn about ways to enhance their self-esteem and build healthy relationships
