Relief Counsellors are responsible for providing frontline crisis intervention, counselling, advocacy, support and referral services to women and children, either in person or by telephone.
Candidates must be available to work weekdays and weekends, all shifts (mornings, afternoons, evenings) including overnights. Position requires working with children on an as-needed basis, including occasional scheduled shifts or emergency/short notice coverage

The Relief Counsellor is responsible for providing frontline crisis intervention, counselling, advocacy, support and referral services to women and children, either in person or by telephone, in keeping with the philosophy, policies and procedures of the organization. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a positive, comfortable shelter environment on a daily basis.
Relief coverage of the shelter is provided when permanent Residential Counsellors: Women’s Services, permanent Residential Counsellors: Child and Youth Services, and permanent Cook/Life Skills Coordinators are absent due to vacation, illness, use personal leave days, lieu time and/or approved off-site work responsibilities. This includes, but is not limited to, occasional scheduled shifts or emergency/short notice coverage.
The Residential Counsellor: Relief Counsellor is responsible for, and is evaluated in relation to the tasks and activities identified in the following position descriptions, with the exception of the items outlined under EXCEPTIONS below:
Only those Relief Counsellors who have received separate training for the Cook/Life Skills Coordinator position will provide coverage in the absence of the Cook/Life Skills Coordinator(s).
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
The Relief Counsellor shall demonstrate skill and competence in the following areas:
Valid Drivers Licence
Advanced computer skills
Fluency in French
Second language other than English or French
Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)
